We’ve stepped into a seasonally cool and cloudy stretch tonight and Monday, thanks to the wake of yesterday’s backdoor cold front. Northeast winds have kept things breezy, but high pressure sliding in from the Northeast is helping us settle into a more comfortable late September pattern. Expect lows near 60° tonight, with some patchy fog developing—locally dense in spots. The early morning commute could be tricky.
Monday: A Calm and Cool Start
High pressure remains in charge on Monday, keeping the air dry and the temperatures down. Afternoon highs will only climb into the 70s, making for a refreshingly crisp and cloudy day to kick off the week. If you’ve been waiting to break out the flannel, this is your day.

Tuesday–Wednesday: Back to Warmth
That high pressure begins to slide south by Tuesday, opening the door for warmer air to return. Highs rebound into the low–mid 80s inland (a touch cooler near the coast), with muggy air sneaking back in.

Rain chances remain low, but a few isolated showers or storms could pop up late Tuesday, mainly north and west of Richmond.

Wednesday looks much the same—warm, muggy, and increasingly unsettled as a front inches closer

Mid to Late Week: Unsettled and Cooler Again
By midweek, an upper trough and surface front will slowly push east. With ample moisture in the atmosphere, we’ll see daily chances for showers and thunderstorms Wednesday into late week

This looks like one of those setups that could deliver some beneficial rainfall across the region—a welcome shift for yards, gardens, and reservoirs alike.
Behind the front, cooler air filters back in. Expect highs in the upper 70s by Thursday and Friday, with lows dipping into the 60s—possibly even the upper 50s in rural spots by the weekend. That’s a pretty classic late-September setup: a little bit of everything, and a reminder that fall is on deck

🌤️ Bottom Line:
Patchy fog late tonight into Monday morning.
Cool and cloudy Monday.
Warmer Tuesday/Wednesday with a few showers/storms possible.
Widespread rain likely mid-to-late week.
Cooler, fall-like temps return by the weekend.
